Overview

Pickup-Lah is an on-demand pickup and delivery app built for the Malaysia market. The platform connects customers who need something picked up or delivered with nearby drivers who have different types of vehicles. A bike for small parcels, a car for food and flowers, a van for electronics, a lorry for furniture. All from one single app. Customers just open the app, select the vehicle they need, enter the pickup and drop point, and the nearest available driver takes the booking.

Problem Statement

When Pickup-Lah came to us, they had the idea but no app to run it. They needed a user app, driver app, and admin panel built from scratch for the Malaysian market. The challenge was supporting multiple vehicle types, each with different pricing logic, plus strict driver document verification. And doing all this for a client in a different country.

The Process

Gathering Information – We had detailed discussions with the Pickup-Lah team to understand the Malaysian delivery market, the vehicle types they wanted to support, and the pricing structure for each.

Research and Discovery – Our team researched similar on-demand apps in Southeast Asia and studied how driver onboarding and fleet-based pricing should be handled.

App Development – We built the user app, driver app, and admin panel simultaneously, keeping the three in sync at every stage.

Testing – Both apps were tested thoroughly for real-time tracking accuracy, payment flow, driver verification, and order management before going live.

Pickup-Lah is built across three platforms working together.

User App – Customers can book a delivery, select vehicle type, enter pickup and drop locations, track the driver live, and pay through the app.

Driver App – Registered drivers can go online, accept bookings, navigate to the pickup location, and manage their daily earnings, all from their phone.

Admin Panel – The backend portal lets the Pickup-Lah team manage drivers, approve new registrations, monitor active orders, and control platform settings.

App Key Features

OTP Login

Users log in using their mobile number. An OTP is sent for verification, so no password is needed. Simple and fast.

Multi-Fleet Booking

Users can choose from Bike, Car, Van, Pickup Truck, or Lorry depending on what they need to move. Each vehicle type has its own pricing.

Real-Time Tracking

Once the driver accepts the booking, users can track the driver live on the map. This keeps the customer informed at every stage of the delivery.

Multi-Language Support

The app supports English and Bahasa Melayu, so users in Malaysia can use it comfortably in their perferred language.

Secure Payments

Users can pay through multiple payment options including online payment and cash on delivery, based on what they are comfortable with.

Driver Verification & Onboarding

Before a driver can go live, they need to upload NRIC, driving licence, vehicle grant and vehicle photos. Account gets approved within 3 to 5 working days. This keeps the platform safe for users.

Exclusive Offers

The app has a promotions section where users can access special offers and discount codes during checkout.

Driver Wallet

Drivers need to maintain a minimum wallet balance to accept orders. Earnings from each delivery gets credited to the same wallet.

CHALLENGES

The biggest challange for our team was building a pricing engine that could handle different vehicle types. Each vehicle, bike, car, van, pickup truck, 1-tonne lorry, 3-tonne lorry, 5-tonne lorry, has a different price per km and a different base fare. Getting all this to calculate correctly and show the right fare to the user in real time was not a small task.

Also, the driver onboarding flow needed to be strict enough for compliance but simple enough that drivers wouldn’t drop off midway. We had to balance document uploads with a user experience that didn’t feel like filling a government form.

SOLUTION

We built a flexible pricing module where admin can set base fare, per-km rate, and minimum fare separately for each vehicle type. Any time Pickup-Lah adds a new vehicle or changes the rate, it can be done from the admin panel without touching the code.

For driver onboarding, we made the sign-up a step by step process with clear labels on what documents are needed and in what format. The admin gets notified for every new driver registration and can approve or reject directly from the panel.

 

RESULT

After the launch of the Pickup-Lah app, the business saw a 10x growth in operations. The app is now live on both Google Play and Apple App Store, serving customers across Malaysia.
